09:30-10:10      The special problems of the premature and ex-premature neonate (including perioperative anaesthetic management of infant for an inguinal hernia operation.  Debbie Duce (Consultant Anaesthetist-BCH)

10:10-10:40      Preoperative assessment of neonates, infants and children (including premedication, the importance of identifying when upper respiratory tract infections are/are not significant).   Rupert Harris (Consultant Anaesthetist-NBT)

11:00-11:40       Perioperative fluid therapy (including the adverse effects of starvation and hypoglycaemia in neonates and children and how blood volume is estimated and how correct solutions and volumes are used for replacement).   Beverly Guard (Consultant Anaesthetist-BCH)

11:40-12:20       The paediatric airway and management of acute airway obstruction including croup, epiglottitis and inhaled foreign body.   Richard Beringer (Consultant Anaesthetist-BCH)

12:20-13:00       The management of postoperative pain, and nausea and vomiting in children (including the use of common regional techniques).   Sarah Parry (Pain Nurse Specialist-BCH)

14:40-15:20        How to recognise the critically ill child with e.g. sepsis, trauma, convulsions, diabetic emergencies and describes their timely management.   Suzanne Dean (Consultant Intensivist-BCH)
