Perioperative Assessment & Optimisation
- Daily consultant-led clinics run in Cheltenham’s St Paul’s Wing, offering a structured approach to preoperative assessment.
- Clinics operate morning and afternoon, with dedicated face-to-face consultations ensuring detailed patient evaluations.
- Preoperative notes reviews are typically staffed separately, providing trainees with exposure to risk stratification, medical optimisation, and shared decision-making.
- A Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPEX) programme is currently being developed, offering trainees future opportunities to engage in objective perioperative risk assessment.
- An anaesthetic consultant led ECHO service
Specialist Paediatric Pre-Assessment
- A consultant-led paediatric pre-assessment clinic runs every Tuesday afternoon, offering the opportunity to gain experience in preparing paediatric patients for surgery.
- Attendance can be arranged in advance, providing insight into the unique considerations of paediatric perioperative care.
Trainees will have the opportunity to attend key multidisciplinary meetings, gaining exposure to complex case discussions and collaborative decision-making. These include:
- High-risk surgical MDTs
- Anaesthesia-surgery joint case discussions
- Prehabilitation and optimisation meetings
