Gloucestershire Hospitals - Management and Professional and Regulatory Requirements
This SIA in Gloucestershire will provide valuable insight and hands-on experience in the management, professional, and regulatory aspects of clinical practice. The post provides direct exposure to key governance frameworks, including the Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation (ACSA) process and Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulations, equipping trainees with essential skills in leadership, quality assurance, and service development.
Regulatory and Management Experience:
- Active involvement in guideline development and review, ensuring adherence to best practice standards.
- Delegating and managing clinical audits, developing leadership skills in overseeing quality improvement initiatives.
- In an ACSA physical visit year, participation in the presenting team, gaining first-hand experience in external accreditation processes.
- Engagement with business case development, contributing to strategic planning and service enhancement.
- Developing an understanding of the job planning process, including workforce allocation and resource management.
Clinical Governance and Patient Safety:
- Working closely with the Clinical Governance Lead for Theatres to address issues affecting patient care quality.
- Designing and leading Quality Improvement (QI) projects, driving measurable enhancements in patient safety.
- Collaborating in a multi-disciplinary approach to resolve safety concerns and optimise perioperative care.
- Gaining insight into the management of complaints and litigation, contributing to risk reduction and service improvement.
- This post provides a well-rounded foundation in clinical governance, leadership, and regulatory compliance, ensuring anaesthetists develop the skills required to take on senior roles in the future.
It can be offered as a stand-alone SIA, or it can run in parallel with a clinical SIA, achieving both at the end of six or twelve months (WTE).
