Study Leave
Introduction
The School of Anaesthesia manages the Education Programme for trainees in Anaesthesia in accordance with the requirements of the GMC and the Royal College of Anaesthetists Curriculum. Educational Supervisors work with trainees to produce an individual personal development plan, which includes appropriate courses and study days. Study leave (time) is then granted by departments and the budget (expenses) for this leave is managed by the School. Study leave can be considered in two parts; half as internal and half as external.
Internal leave is used to attend School study days; Primary, FRCA and Postfellowship study days. These days are part of the training programme and trainees are expected to attend. Leave is taken from your department of anaesthesia using the local procedures. In some departments this would mean a leave form but in others it may be that the study days are rostered for trainees.
External study leave is always booked as leave. It requires the support of your Educational Supervisor and the rota co-ordinator who confirm that it is appropriate and possible. Claims for funding are then agreed and processed by the School Manager (Julie Flowers).
